Bloomington, Ind., — Nov. 15, 2024 — The Bloomington Housing Authority is pleased to announce the appointment of Nathan Ferreira to the role of Executive Director where he will carry out the organization’s mission to advance housing access and build a strong, resilient housing authority, effective mid-December.
The Bloomington Housing Authority is dedicated to providing safe, affordable housing and promoting community well-being. Through its commitment to affordable housing solutions, BHA strives to empower individuals and families, reduce homelessness, and enhance the quality of life for all Bloomington residents.
Ferreira, who is currently Director of Real Estate Development since 2022, brings significant experience in affordable housing, having also served with Habitat for Humanity of Monroe County as the Director of Land Development & Production and previously as the Director of Residential Programs with The Julian Center.
“We are thrilled to promote Nathan as our new Executive Director. With his extensive experience and passion for our mission he will lead our organization to new heights and make a profound impact,” says current Executive Director Kate Gazunis.
Ferreira says he firmly believes that “housing stability is the foundation of economic freedom and of strong and resilient communities.”

Ferreira earned a Master’s degree in Counseling Psychology from Michigan State University and holds a Certificate in Nonprofit Management from the O’Neill School at Indiana University Indianapolis. He supports a number of Bloomington based nonprofit organizations, including being an enthusiastic volunteer and promoter of LOTUS Education and Arts Foundation.
About the Bloomington Housing Authority:
Established in 1961, the Bloomington Housing Authority (BHA) employs a staff of 30 and provides housing assistance to over 2,500 Monroe County households each year. The BHA operates three affordable housing communities and provides more than 1,300 Housing Choice Vouchers (Section 8) that enable income eligible families to rent in the private market. BHA also maintains active service coordination programs including the Family Self-Sufficiency Program and Step Up Program.
